Earth Day: It’s not easy being ‘green’ – The Sunflower: News

Finally, my first article I feel like is really my own.  I took the opportunity to edit it myself before publish, so other than minor edits (oxford comma in a room full of journalists. lol) this is all me!

IF you are looking for more information regarding the movement in Wichita, or on the WSU campus, I encourage you to seek out Toni Jackman or councilwoman Janet Miller.

Geology major Samuel Boaz is looking for redemption, or so he joked.

Family Carnival avoids rain, delights children with fun activites – The Sunflower: News

Maggie loved attending the Family Carnival. Her green dog balloon animal broke, so we had to get a new one.  Thankfully it was free.

All the information here is mine, and I wrote most of it.  I am still off on my organization of stories, so a lot of this is the editors also. They take my work and make me sound much better than my current quality!

STILL working on it guys, but thanks for the support in the mean time! 🙂

Though pre-K student Delilah Parnell was a little shy, she was eager to participate in Saturday’s spring Family Carnival games, despite the cl…

Project RunAway: Run toward new mediums – The Sunflower: News

I missed out on attending this event, unfortunately.  Ah, the joys of parenthood and homework.  There just isn’t enough time in the day for all the fun stuff i’d like to do!

Anyhow, I fully intend on attending some of their events in the future, because the people who run it put A LOT of work into it, and boy do they know how to entertain!

Wichita State art students will host its eighth annual Project RunAway  at 7 p.m. Friday at McKnight Art Center to raise funds for the off-cam…

Best food truck: The Flying Stove – The Sunflower: Entertainment

Okay, so i’ll admit I had never eaten at The Flying Stove before this article.  I took on the story because I had heard good things, but I wasn’t holding my breath.

Fan. Freaking. Tastic.

I ordered some truffle fries.  I had never heard of this before.  Are there potato like substances called truffles?  Are they making fries out of these?  I thought truffles were delicious chocolate treats.

Anyhow, I guess its plain old fries made out of potatoes, but they add in this delicious truffle oil and some spices on top. *sigh* I think my mind was temporarily in heaven during that first fry.

I was lucky enough to sample another dish, which I did not get the name of unfortunately.  Deliciousness.  I should have got the name, because I want to go back and order it.

They change their menu every week, however.  So, It wouldn’t have done me much good.  I fully suggest tracking down this food truck and trying something new.  I promise it will be worth it.  The owners seemed pretty cool too.  Its fun to support people who seem worth supporting.

Best coffee shop: Mead’s Corner – The Sunflower: Entertainment

This is actually my third story, but my second story written for the University Paper (which I am excited to share was on the cover! woot!) was not published online.

Adding a personal note to the story:

I enjoyed learning about Mead’s.  It’s a fantastic business, run by good people.  I wish it was closer to my home, I’d visit them more often.  So far my favorite drink is the Chai with extra cinnamon on top!

Whether you are a traditional student, returning student or faculty, attending a university guarantees you late-nights full of mid-term crammi…

Shockers help clean up Girl Scout facility in preparation for busy season – The Sunflower: News

Hey there blogger family!

This is my very first story as a journalist.  I recognize it’s a little rudimentary.  Okay, the story is fantastic, but I need a little practice writing like a journalist.  I’m loving the job so far.

Something exciting I didn’t get to share with my audience: the girl scout facility that the Community Service Board helped clean up was the same location that my husband and I held our marriage ceremony and reception!  I also worked at Starwoods outdoor center as a PA and CSL my last few years in girl scouts.  It was the cherry on top of a delicious sundae for me.

I hope you enjoy the story, and stay tuned for more!  I intend on posting all of my stories on here as well.  Hopefully i’ll start blogging again soon too!
